High court of Australia overturned the conviction convicted of sexual abuse former Treasurer of the Vatican, cardinal George Pell. It is reported by the BBC.
A panel of seven judges unanimously ruled in favor of cardinal Pell, saying that the jury did not consider properly all the evidence presented at the trial.
Pell said that he has always maintained his innocence and suffered from injustice.
He has served more than 400 days of imprisonment. After his release from prison, Victoria Barwon Pell went to the Carmelite monastery in Melbourne.
On 21 August the court of appeal denied the appeal of Pella. He said that will appeal the case in the last instance – the High court of Australia.
February 26, 2019, a jury in Melbourne (Australia) recognized Pella guilty on five counts of sexual abuse of children. In March 2019, the court sentenced him to six years imprisonment.
