Former Prime Minister of France sentenced to five years in prison

As reported by Le Parisien, the Paris court on June 29 Fillon sentenced to five years of imprisonment (three of which are suspended), a fine of €375 thousand, and forbade the ex-politician to hold public office for 10 years. His wife received a three-year suspended sentence.

The court ordered the spouses to compensate the state losses of around €1 million.

Fillon has announced its intention to appeal the decision.

In the indictment talking about a fictitious work of Penelope Fillon at the office of the spouse in the National Assembly of France. For three years the wife of the former Prime Minister of France received about €800 thousand for the work actually performed.
