Failed to avoid geese. The cyclist fell and suffered injuries in training
Famous Dutch cyclist Niki Terpstra from the team Total Direct Energie were injured due to a fall during training in curious circumstances.
Group Terpstra rode a small flock of geese. Nicky flew into a ditch, hit a big rock and got a few non-threatening to life injuries: a collapsed lung, concussion, broken ribs and clavicle.
36-year-old athlete was admitted to hospital in medical helicopter directly from the training. The condition of the cyclist is not a threat to his life, but he will need time to recover.
The wife of the cyclist said: “Nicky crashed heavily at high speed. He’s in the hospital, he will have to stay there for a few days. Mortal danger there, but he needs time to recover”.
Niki Terpstra, four – time world champion in team time trial (2012, 2013, 2016, 2018), the winner of the race Paris – Roubaix (2014) and the Tour of Flanders (2018).
