Explosions in the port of Beirut. Wounded UN peacekeepers
Due to a series of explosions in the port of the Lebanese capital Beirut on August 4, injured UN peacekeepers. About this informed the organization’s website.
“As a result of powerful explosion thundered on Tuesday evening in the port area of the capital of Lebanon, killed dozens and injured thousands of people. The injured UN peacekeepers from Bangladesh, serving in the Maritime task force. Damaged one of the ships of the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon,” the statement reads.
LBCI Lebanon with reference to the representative of the United Nations interim force in Lebanon Andrea Tenenti said that some peacekeepers were wounded seriously, they were taken to the hospital.
A series of powerful explosions in the port of Beirut occurred on the evening of 4 August. According to Lebanese authorities, they happened at the warehouse confiscated explosive materials or storage of ammonium nitrate (saltpeter).
According to the latest data, the explosion killed at least 73 people, more than 3 thousand were injured.
The correspondent of TV channel Al Jazeera Timur Agari reported that the blast the cars threw him into the roof of the plant in a port zone of a height of about three floors.
Reuters wrote, citing eyewitnesses that the explosion felt by residents of the capital Nicosia, which is located almost 200 km from Beirut.
