During the presidential election campaign in Belarus decided to reduce the number of observers at polling stations due to the spread of the coronavirus. About it it is spoken in the decree of the Central Commission of Belarus for elections and conduct of Republican referendums of 22 July.
The ruling said that the meetings of election commissions, at reception of protocols and in the voting premises may be present not more than five observers. In the period of early voting in the polling station will allow for three observers.
Thus, if the precinct election Commission consists of seven members, at its meetings and at the polling place as observers may be present not more than half of the members of the Commission.
The requirement does not apply to foreign (international) observers, members of the house of representatives, members of the national Assembly of Belarus and deputies of local councils.
In Belarus is scheduled for August 9th inivory of the President of Belarus. The CEC registered five candidates. For the post of the head of state claimed by incumbent President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, the opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovski, who took their children to one of the countries of the European Union, co-Chairman of the Association “Tell the truth” Andrey Dmitriev, ex-Deputy Anna Konopacka and leader of the Belarusian social-democratic party Sergey Cerecer.
With the presidential race in the country previously starred four candidates: the leader of the liberal democratic party Oleg Gaidukevich, Deputy Chairman of Association of carriers “Region 8” Natalia Kissel, rock musician Alexander Tabolic and the head of the movement “For Freedom” Yuri Hubarevich.
One of the main opponents of Lukashenko, banker Victor Babariko was taken into custody June 18, a day before the deadline, which is given to collect signatures for the candidate. Law enforcement authorities accused him of financial crimes. On the same day in Minsk held a protest against the persecution of opposition politicians. Belarusian citizens formed a human chain and stood there for more than six hours.
