In the FBSI SRC VB “Vector” of Rospotrebnadzor studies have been conducted of the viability of the novel coronavirus on various surfaces. The scientists also tested the disinfectant properties of dozens of different substances: chlorine and alcohol-based disinfectants, disinfectants based on Quaternary ammonium compounds and tertiary amines.
According to the study, it was shown that the virus remains viable on various surfaces (stainless steel, linoleum, glass, plastic, ceramic tile) for more than 48 h and can serve as a source of infection. It was found that treatment of contaminated surfaces with disinfectant can effectively deal with viable viral particles.
“All tested disinfectants quickly and efficiently kill the virus. Ethyl and isopropyl alcohols even at a concentration of 30% is able to destroy up to a million viral particles for 30 seconds. The effectiveness of chlorine-based disinfectants have in a few tens of seconds to fully decontaminate the surface. Disinfectants based on tertiary and Quaternary amines lead to the loss of viability of the coronavirus within a few minutes”, – stated in the message Department.
One of the possible ways of infection of human novel coronavirus infection is contact with the surface of the objects that contain viable virus. Failure to comply with recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19, contamination can occur through contact of contaminated hands with the mucous membranes of the nose, eyes and mouth. In turn, contamination of the surfaces of objects mainly occurs as a result of the allocation of an infected person viral particles while breathing, sneezing and coughing.
