China six days kept silent about the danger of the spread of the novel coronavirus. This writes the Agency Associated Press, citing documents provided by a source in the health sector of China.
So, 14 January, the head of the national Commission of health of China MA Saova held a videoconference with representatives of the health authorities of Hubei province, where the epidemic began coronavirus infection subsequently spread to the whole world.
The officer instructed the local authorities on the response to the epidemic, but in the provided source documents do not specify that it was for the measures. However, at that meeting, MA Saova expressed the view that the threat of coronavirus – “the most serious problem since the outbreak of SARS in 2003, and she probably will grow into a major event in the field of public health.”
Despite this, after a few days in Wuhan – the epicentre of the outbreak COVID-19 – were mass events on the occasion of the lunar New year.
Officially, China announced that the virus can be transmitted from person to person (and therefore could pose a serious threat) only on January 20. As noted by the AP, this is not the first and not the long delay in informing about the threats made by the Chinese government, however, interviewed by the Agency experts believe that the silence about the danger of coronavirus “has prepared the ground for a pandemic”: in the course of this week in China COVID-19 has infected more than 3 thousand people, was also registered at least one case of export of infection abroad (January 13, infection with coronavirus was confirmed in Thailand).
An epidemiologist from the University of California in Los Angeles Zuo-Feng Zhang believes that if China took action six days earlier, “the patients [in China] would be a lot less.”
At the same time, other experts believe that the way the Chinese government tried to prevent panic among the population.
Flash coronavirus infection COVID-19 began in late 2019 in Wuhan. Thus in March, the media wrote that the first cases of the coronavirus in the country was registered in mid November 2019, not at the end of December, when it was announced by the Chinese authorities. Some countries also believe that Beijing understated data on the number of infected and killed in the epidemic.
March 11, the world health organization declared the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. According to data from the American Johns Hopkins University, April 15, the coronavirus has infected of 1.99 million, 128 thousand died, 500 thousand recovered.
