Belkovsky: Putin loves power and the trappings of power, and hates publicity
Russian President Vladimir Putin likes not the power itself, and its attributes. This opinion on April 18, the radio station “Echo of Moscow” expressed by Russian political scientist Stanislav Belkovsky.
“Putin loves power and the trappings of power, and hates publicity. People power loves publicity. It costs nothing to go to the people without any protection or in plague barracks without any protective suit, like Napoleon – is not it? Could Napoleon ill with the plague? Of course she could. Did it stop him? No. Because the love of power was more important. Putin likes the trappings of power – the rings of protection, these honors, staff to the immeasurable quantity of limitless possibilities devoid of democratic control of the Russian government,” he said.
According to the analyst, “it is not the love of power as such, not the substance of this government.”
“Because of the fear of publicity Putin always disappears at the moment of occurrence of certain intractable crises, whether disaster nuclear submarine “Kursk”, the taking of hostages in “Nord-OST” and Beslan, and public floats to the surface when everything has already been decided in his favor. And all the crises were resolved in his favor, otherwise he would not be President today,” explained Belkovsky.
He noted that the current crisis associated with the spread of coronavirus infection first became Putin’s longer-term.
“This is a crisis whose causes, in contrast, is unclear. Unclear and long-term consequences. Therefore, Putin stuck for a long time. The question is, why is he sitting somewhere in a bunker,” – said Belkovsky.
April 1, Putin’s press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the head of the Kremlin because of the coronavirus switched to remote work.
