Belgian firm begins testing actionnaires vaccine on humans

Pharmaceutical company Janssen Pharmaceutica beginning human trials of a vaccine that supposedly protects against coronavirus. The vaccine program of the company Johan van hoof said on July 27, the Belgian broadcaster VRT.

Janssen Pharmaceutica, based in province Antwerp, is a subsidiary of American international Corporation Johnson&Johnson.

The tests will be carried out in Belgium and in the United States. The original plan was to start testing on humans in September. However, research to develop a vaccine ahead of schedule, said van hoof.

The first healthy volunteers were vaccinated last week. Only clinical trials will take part in 1000 people. At this stage is to determine whether the vaccine is safe, what are the possible side effects and how the immune system reacts to it. Then will be verified the effectiveness of the drug.

According to him, tests on animals allow us to maintain a “cautious optimism”.

Van hoof hopes that the vaccine will be ready in the first half of 2021. In the case of test success Janssen Pharmaceutica will be able to produce next year 1 billion doses.
