After reviewing the state budget of funding for athletics has decreased by 78% – from 82 million hryvnia to slightly more than 18 million.
“At the same 14.7 million we spent in the early years, laying these tools on the initial stages of preparation for the Olympics, – says the head of the Federation Igor River. – We didn’t know then that there will be a crisis and the conditions will change. Another 2.5 million should be spent in the near future, to return from abroad, those athletes who are still in training camp”.
Now athletics is looking for ways to stay afloat until the end of 2020. Igor the River says, that in the current circumstances, the Federation is forced to take unpopular steps to increase the membership fees and to introduce to the participants of the Ukrainian League entry fees.
“There’s no other way. To conduct internal competitions in all age groups is vital at least in view of the fact that the athletes did not lose motivation and was able to qualify for international competitions. When they would not have taken place. Of course, we will appeal to the relevant Ministry, after coronavirus crisis funds returned to us as promised to make Minister Vadim Gutzeit. Meantime, needs to defend themselves. On 28 April we held with the help of modern means of communication meeting with heads of regional cells and agreed that the main burden of carrying out competitions will take on the areas that will take them,” said the River.
